Detox On the Go

We’ve covered a lot of ways to clean up your act this month.  Today I was planning to talk about Detox On the Go because so many of us swear we don’t have enough time to take good care of ourselves.  Then it occurred to me while sitting in the airport that I need to address a very important topic again.  I spend a lot of time talking to people about the water they drink.  Why?  It’s one of the most toxic substances we deal with every day.

How can that be?  About a year ago, we are all alarmed at the stories coming out of Flint, Michigan about lead in the water and the devastating effect it had on the children in that city.  I thought it would be a great idea to revisit that topic with an update.

SO YOU THINK YOUR WATER IS CLEANER THAN FLINT’S!

Think again.  Much has been published in the news for months now on the toxic water quality in Flint, Michigan.  A lot of finger pointing amongst politicians.  As usual the topics they argue over completely miss the point.  Flint’s water quality is poor but your own local drinking water contains many of the same chemicals found in Flint’s water.

Whoa!  How can that be true?  What people fail to realize is that your local water treatment facility is dumping some pretty awful things in the water like fluoride and chlorine.  This doesn’t even address all the glyphosates from the runoff of Monsanto’s Round Up product and all the pharmaceuticals that make their way into the sewer and show in reclaim water.  You may say why be concerned about this?  We need fluoride for our teeth and chlorine is a disinfectant.  Don’t we need these?

Remember that pesky Table of Elements from chemistry class.  A listing of the elements of the halogen group – from the top down are F – Fluorine; CL – Chlorine; Br – Bromine; I – Iodine; and At – Astatine.  Halogens don’t occur naturally as elements but they show up abundantly in chemical compounds.  Okay, enough for the chemistry lesson.  Of this group, iodine is the only one we absolutely need to survive and it promotes a healthy thyroid.  The others are suspect with astatine actually being radioactive.  Fluoride inhibits the thyroid from utilizing iodine.  Chlorine irritates the mucous membranes and the skin and it also displaces iodine.  By the way it’s been present in the artificial sweetener, Splenda.  :-0  Bromine is very disruptive to iodine absorption in the body, but especially in the thyroid gland.  Bromide causes lethargy, depression, headaches and irritability, and can be found in a lot of baked goods (added to the flour) and some soft drinks.  Harvard University published a study as recently as 2012 warning of the dangers of fluoride in neurological development and its tendency to lower IQ in children and adults.

So the obvious question is why add this stuff to our food and water?  Well it might have something to do with our politicians insisting on it.  Hmmm.

Those of you who are familiar with my past life will understand why I’m a credible source of information on this topic.  Having worked for one of the largest public water treatment districts in the country, I’ve seen first hand what gets dumped into our tap water.  Los Angeles Department of Water and Power also embarked on a very extensive and expensive cement lining project throughout the city because the pipes were so eroded from transporting the toxic soup to your tap.  I actually kept the stats for this project.

When you get a chance, watch this short film on Fluoride: Poison on Tap.  I cannot vouch for the products promoted at the end of the video, but I can tell you the information about fluoride in our drinking water is valid.

Iodine will bind up toxins like fluoride, chlorine and bromine which then protects your body from contamination.  Nascent iodine is a great source of this and can be taken orally.

While I’m writing this, I’m sitting in the Houston airport.  You know, one of those places where the TSA confiscates your bottle of water and forces you to buy a bottle of glorified tap water for $4.  What’s in that bottled water?  Most of us don’t want to know because we think we have no options.  Not so!  Some bottled waters are suspect with good reason.  Nestle was caught tapping into a city water system in California and bottling the water for sale.  Yes.  As crazy as that sounds, it’s true.  In July 2012, USA Today also reported that Nestle was tapping into the municipal water supply for some of their bottled water products.  They’re not the only company with suspect water products.

There is a solution to this.  You can carry a small bottle of nascent iodine with you on long trips.  Just a few drops in that bottled water and you’ve managed to achieve Detox On the Go.  For more information on Wellness and Graceful Aging, check me out here at JaniceWoody.com or on Facebook at Janice Woody’s Lifetime Health.

Detox Workout

Boy is this a long month!  We got through clearing out the head trash, the colon cleanse and greater skin.  Now it’s time for the Detox Workout.  Don’t worry.  This one is easy to remember.  Anytime you’re sweating and getting your heart rate up, you’re in detox mode.

Wow!  Finally something simple.  Well why is it so hard to get up off the couch and do it?  No matter what you’re doing for a workout, if it’s pushing you to your limits, that’s a good thing.  Remember last week we talked about your skin being your largest organ.  Well when you’re sweating and getting your heart rate up, that can push toxins out of the body through your skin and your lungs.  The body is such an amazing creation.  It has the capacity to clean itself and heal itself at the same time.

When you sweat out all those toxins, the body can function at optimum levels.  Have you ever noticed having more energy after a great workout?  That’s natural.  If that’s not how you’re feeling, something may be wrong.  Listen to your body and it will tell you when to pump it up and when to back off.  The key to having great energy is consistent, daily activity.  Do you have a routine for keeping yourself active?  Did you know that you not only feed yourself with the foods you eat, but also you feed yourself with energy by your activity.  New research is confirming what our elders have known for thousands of year, we live in fields of energy.  Everything is in energy exchange all the time.

When you get out into the fresh air and walk, run, bike, skate, dance, whatever you do, you are feeding your body energy.  You feel the difference so you know this is true.  Have you ever noticed that the people who tend to have the longest, healthiest, happiest lives are those who are active?  They thrive on an active lifestyle.  That detox workout is the key to graceful aging.  I want to see you around for a long time.  I’ve got to have somebody to talk to.  So get up, do something fun and physically challenging.  See if you don’t get more energy and feel better.

If you got any benefit from this, please like it and share it with your friends.  For more information on wellness and graceful aging, visit JaniceWoody.com or check me out on Facebook at Janice Woody’s Lifetime Health.  Hears to your Lifetime Health!

The Skinny on Great Skin

A huge part of Graceful Aging is enhancing and supporting the life of your skin.  Your skin is your largest organ.  Whatever you put on it goes into your body.  Whatever you eat or drink, at some point, show up on your skin.  Think about that for a minute.  When you decided to party just a little too hard that night.  When you had way too much alcohol and fatty processed foods.  What did your skin look like the next morning?

When you take a bath or shower, the water and soap you use goes into your body.  Many times these substances also leave a film on the surface of your skin.  Whatever lotions, ointments, salves, gels, pastes, makeup, perfumes you’re using are leaving behind a footprint.  Is it a healthy footprint?

Read those labels on your skin care products.  Not just the front label but flip it over and read the back to see what’s in it.  Did you know that manufacturers are allowed to say virtually anything on the front cover?  They won’t be penalized as long as they print the ingredients on the back and give you the required nutritional information.

Do you recognize any of the ingredients in your skin care products?  Would you know where to go to get reliable information on those ingredients?  Or are you operating on faith in the manufacturer to create products that do no harm?  There are four primary questions I ask about skin care products:

  • Do they significantly change the visible effects of skin damage caused by oxidative stress?
  • Will they enhance and strengthen my skin’s own protective barriers?
  • Will they provide protection against environmental assaults from polluted water; harmful chemicals in the air and food; and toxicity from pharmaceuticals?
  • Do they counterbalance the visible negative effects of sun related damage?

I challenge you to take a closer look at your skin this week.  Take a closer look at what you’re eating and drinking.  Take a closer look at what you’re putting on your skin.  Sometimes we don’t immediately see the results of our actions, but if you have a multitude of lines, wrinkles, age spots and dead skin, it may be time to pamper yourself a little and nurture your largest organ.  It’s not about vanity.  It’s about your health.

This is detox month at Janice Woody’s Lifetime Health.  That colon cleanse you did last week, did wonders for your overall health and that included your skin.  Before you run to put on that facial mask, flip it over.  Read the ingredients.  If it’s scary, invest the time in finding a more natural replacement.  You can do this!  There are some amazing products available that use natural, plant based, minimally processed ingredients to revitalize your skin.  Find something that works for you.

I have my own skin care secret and it’s True Science.  I’ve used it for almost a decade now and my skin has never looked or felt better.  For more information on that, go check it out here.  Whatever you choose to do, develop a regular routine of detoxing your system, especially your skin.

Well that’s the skinny on great skin.  If you got any value from this, please like it and share it with your friends.  You can also visit me here at JaniceWoody.com or check me out on Facebook at Janice Woody’s Lifetime Health.  Hears to your Lifetime Health!

Detox January continues with COLON CLEANSE

It’s the start of a new year and we are in detox mode.  The gyms are packed, at least for another month, and we are determined to lose that extra weight!

How many of you are in this cycle right now?  This doesn’t have to be a January THING every year and then you fall off the wagon, get dragged for miles before you give up and finally go back to the old life.

What if you did something different this year?  What if you really made a lifestyle transformation?  That’s right!  NO MORE DIETS!  EVER!  It’s very possible and you can do it.  Last week we talked about Cleaning Out the Head Trash as part of our new year’s detox.  Now let’s get down to it.  To live at optimum health, you need a healthy body to go along with that clean calm peaceful mind.  The best way to start cleaning up your body is by doing a colon cleanse.

The colon is a powerful organ in your body and next to your heart is a major determinate of your quality of life.  If your colon is not functioning properly, clogged up, not moving, it can be like a bad day on the 405 freeway in L.A.  You just want to get out of your car and walk away.  Or better yet, grow wings and fly away.

Speaking as someone who has lived through cancer and the horrifying surgery that came with it, paying close attention to my colon health is one of the main reasons I’m still alive, healthy and full of energy.  I cleanse on a regular basis and you should consider doing this also.  It’s worth the effort and you’re taking a preventative approach to your health.  That makes a lot more sense than waiting for something to go wrong and then running to the doctor.  Maybe you are already suffering with one of the many colon related illnesses such as leaky gut and diverticulitis.  For you a good colon cleanse will help alleviate some of the suffering.

I recommend using a supplement along with diet and exercise to help you detox and clean out the garbage.  I highly recommend PHYSIQ Cleanse which is a natural way to help your body cleanse and promote proper digestive function using 8 natural ingredients to soothe, heal and gently cleanse your colon.  It also promotes healthy function in your gall bladder and urinary tract.  Go to my website for more information on this.  Just click on “one of my SECRETS” tab.  https://janicewoody.wordpress.com/one-of-my-secrets/

You’re going to want to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables while you’re doing the cleanse and avoid bulky foods like red meat, chicken, turkey and pork.  These foods can sometimes take days to clear your digestive tract and basically they nullify your efforts at detoxing.  You also want to drink lots of clean water.  Eighty ounces a day would be helpful.

You’ve heard me talk about eating more veggies and fruit.  My clients and students think I’m a broken record or should I say CD.  Yes, the CD is scratched at that point!  Optimally you want to eat at least 4 cups of fruits and veggies each day.  This will be a lot easier during your cleanse since you’re avoiding meats.  I would add to that also avoid dairy products as well.  Cheese can bind you up just as quickly as a 10 oz. steak.

Don’t attempt to stay in cleanse mode longer than 7 days.  And when you’re done, be gentle with yourself and focus on continuing with your increased intake of fruit and veggies.  I tell my clients that if they are eating a meal consisting of only meat and starch, that is a RED flag.  STOP!  Put some vegetables on that plate.  If you’re on the go, grab a bag of carrots, celery, an apple, a pear, some grapes.  If 4 cups of fruits and vegetables is just too much to wrap your head around, start with 2 cups each day.  That takes care of two meals right away.  You can work up to the rest.

So there you have it!  Detox January is continuing with a much need colon cleanse.  If you want to know more about how I help my clients achieve optimum health in mind, body and spirit, visit me here at JaniceWoody.com and at Janice Woody’s Lifetime Health on Facebook.  If you like this, please click the like button and share it with your friends.
