A huge part of Graceful Aging is enhancing and supporting the life of your skin. Your skin is your largest organ. Whatever you put on it goes into your body. Whatever you eat or drink, at some point, show up on your skin. Think about that for a minute. When you decided to party just a little too hard that night. When you had way too much alcohol and fatty processed foods. What did your skin look like the next morning?
When you take a bath or shower, the water and soap you use goes into your body. Many times these substances also leave a film on the surface of your skin. Whatever lotions, ointments, salves, gels, pastes, makeup, perfumes you’re using are leaving behind a footprint. Is it a healthy footprint?
Read those labels on your skin care products. Not just the front label but flip it over and read the back to see what’s in it. Did you know that manufacturers are allowed to say virtually anything on the front cover? They won’t be penalized as long as they print the ingredients on the back and give you the required nutritional information.
Do you recognize any of the ingredients in your skin care products? Would you know where to go to get reliable information on those ingredients? Or are you operating on faith in the manufacturer to create products that do no harm? There are four primary questions I ask about skin care products:
- Do they significantly change the visible effects of skin damage caused by oxidative stress?
- Will they enhance and strengthen my skin’s own protective barriers?
- Will they provide protection against environmental assaults from polluted water; harmful chemicals in the air and food; and toxicity from pharmaceuticals?
- Do they counterbalance the visible negative effects of sun related damage?
I challenge you to take a closer look at your skin this week. Take a closer look at what you’re eating and drinking. Take a closer look at what you’re putting on your skin. Sometimes we don’t immediately see the results of our actions, but if you have a multitude of lines, wrinkles, age spots and dead skin, it may be time to pamper yourself a little and nurture your largest organ. It’s not about vanity. It’s about your health.
This is detox month at Janice Woody’s Lifetime Health. That colon cleanse you did last week, did wonders for your overall health and that included your skin. Before you run to put on that facial mask, flip it over. Read the ingredients. If it’s scary, invest the time in finding a more natural replacement. You can do this! There are some amazing products available that use natural, plant based, minimally processed ingredients to revitalize your skin. Find something that works for you.
I have my own skin care secret and it’s True Science. I’ve used it for almost a decade now and my skin has never looked or felt better. For more information on that, go check it out here. Whatever you choose to do, develop a regular routine of detoxing your system, especially your skin.
Well that’s the skinny on great skin. If you got any value from this, please like it and share it with your friends. You can also visit me here at JaniceWoody.com or check me out on Facebook at Janice Woody’s Lifetime Health. Hears to your Lifetime Health!
