If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that I’m a huge proponent of food as medicine. Back in June I did a post on serving your family and friends good food, clean food. When you love someone, you want to give them your best. If you truly love someone, why would you serve them pesticide laden food or GMO (genetically modified foods)? Why?
Some people think that you can just rinse the pesticide off with soap and water or a vinegar solution. Yes, you can remove some harmful pesticides from the surface of your fruits and vegetables by doing this. Unfortunately, that won’t get everything. Pesticides are usually sprayed on the crops but they also make their way into the soil. Plants get their nutrients by pulling them from the surrounding soil. Anything in the soil and water is going into the plant by default. This always reminds me of my students and clients who insist that the fried chicken can’t be that bad because they removed the skin. LOL If you don’t get that one, you really need to call me.
If you think GMO is just hysteria propagated by some fringe group? I’ll let you in on a little secret. When we talk about genetically modified foods, we aren’t talking about some new hybrid tomato or combining two different types of plants. All the concern over GMO foods is due to the fact that they have been created in a lab, sometimes by combining plant and animal or insect genes, without the benefit of independent research on their safety. Most of the studies done by feeding GMO to rats has not worked well for the rats. In many cases they developed large cancerous tumors, grew hair in their mouths and suffered an early and painful death. We don’t need these science projects to increase food yield either. Most civilized countries recognize the danger of forcing people to eat these foods and have banned them. In the US, most corn, soybean and wheat is GMO. Almost any processed food you consume has one or all of these ingredients. Read the label! Given the risks, it’s worth it to avoid them. The only studies to date supporting GMO have come from people in the food manufacturing industry, like Monsanto, Bayer or their paid advocates.
Organic produce can be less expensive if you know where to shop, like local markets, your own backyard, community gardens, your own patio or kitchen. Food can be grown in so many amazing places so there’s no excuse for eating pesticides and feeding them to the people you love. Non-GMO seeds are readily available locally or online. When you clean up your food, your health will improve overnight. You can actually feel the difference. You might also live longer and age gracefully. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Thanksgiving memories for me are of Grandma in the kitchen cooking and baking some of my favorite comfort foods. They might have been different from what you ate but they were all I knew. Much of the food was organic because she didn’t use pesticides in her garden or on the fruit trees or the lawn. This was back before organic was cool. We didn’t even know we were eating organic but we knew it was good. Our family was so big, we took shifts at the dining room table on Thanksgiving day. Family members traveled for miles to get there so we could all be together. I hope you’re memories are this sweet. If not, make some new memories starting this year. Let your comfort food be a blessing to your health.
If you’re having turkey on Thanksgiving, at least strive to get the best possible. Remember, this is for your family. Most commercial turkey farms use a variety of drugs as feed additive to “fatten up” the birds. Topmax is the preferred additive found in most supermarket turkeys. If you care, there are alternatives to ingesting this stuff. One would be give the turkey couple in the photo a break and eat something else. But if you insist, go organic. Notice the following warning says – NOT FOR USE IN HUMANS. Yet they feed it to the birds many of us are eating.
WARNING: The active ingredient in Topmax, ractopamine hydrochloride, is a beta-adrenergic agonist. Individuals with cardiovascular disease should exercise special caution to avoid exposure. Not for use in humans. Keep out of the reach of children. The Topmax 9 formulation (Type A Medicated Article) poses a low dust potential under usual conditions of handling and mixing. When mixing and handling Topmax, use protective clothing, impervious gloves, protective eye wear, and a NIOSH-approved dust mask. Operators should wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. If accidental eye contact occurs, immediately rinse eyes thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. My prayer for you this Thanksgiving week is that you are able to spend it with people you love, enjoying clean, toxic free food and beverages, and truly giving thanks that you’re alive and able to do this.

BOOMshackalacka! Trump won. He trumped his enemies. So now what?
I say let’s all get back to work but now do it with a little more love and compassion for everyone around you. Regardless of whether they’re smiling or in tears, they need your love and compassion. I spent some time this week with a group of people who didn’t all agree on the outcome of the election, but we were able to sit, listen and talk about it. What a revolutionary idea! America could use more listening and talking.
Next… What are you doing to make your world a better place? I know I’m doing all I can to make my world a better place by first making myself a better person. That starts with leading a better life moment to moment, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Are you doing all you can do to have optimum health?
Are you filling your mind with garbage while steadily praying for peace of mind?
Are you allowing negative emotions to rule your life?
Are you spending any time focused on the most high?
Our lives are precious gifts we can live with joy and gratitude, love and compassion. You choose in every moment how you give your gift.

You may not be feeling very comfortable right now. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes that is fueling anxiety and stress. Everyday I help people deal with the issues surrounding lifestyle change. The mind fights change and will always vote for the status quo. Those feelings of discomfort become even more intense when we intuitively know a change is coming but we don’t completely understand what it is or how it will impact us.
Last week we spoke about breathing and allowing our spirit a chance to reach Source and know the truth of our being. As we move into November 2016 with all its distractions and uncertainty, we can remember to just breathe. Family and friends are swimming in the same fish pond with you. So don’t expect them to always be the total source of comfort you desire. The only true comfort can be found within.
Move into your heart space and connect with your higher self. The comfort you seek in trying times is there. We live in an amazing world. Science is just now discovering what ancient Mystics have known for millennia. There is infinite intelligence behind every aspect of this world we live in, this universe. There is a creator. You really are a precious life to be celebrated and cherished. And if that is true of you, then it’s the same truth for the person next to you.
If you need comfort now, BE that comfort for everyone around you. It will lift your vibration and amplify your energy to bless the world. Hears to your Lifetime Health.
