There always comes that time when I have to ask one of my clients, ‘How bad do you want it?’ What is optimal health worth to you?

One of my favorite excuses is …’But it felt so good eating that ‘fill in the blank’…
‘I just didn’t have time for a workout because of the kids and work, blah, blah, blah…’

Every day is a series of choices. Many of us use our family obligations as an excuse to sidestep a healthy lifestyle and at what price? The family that you love so much would probably be in worse shape if you suddenly fell ill or worse died due to poor health. But you say, ‘I’m not that bad. I’m not on death’s door’. Really? How do you know that? The bad choices you made yesterday are impacting you today. Likewise, the good choices from yesterday are bringing you benefits, seen and unseen today. No one is promised tomorrow or today for that matter! If you’re not making the most of your life today, you’re essentially throwing away a day and saying that you really don’t care if you’re not around to enjoy life and your family. Choice is like that. It’s brutal and honest.

Start with a small seemingly easy choice just for today. There is nothing complicated about this. It’s just a choice. What will you choose? Some quiet time alone to recharge? a healthy breakfast? some much needed sleep? a brisk walk in the park? calling an old friend to say I love you? It’s just a choice. You drop a pebble in that pond and the ripples burst out in every direction. Be grateful for each and every choice. Surround each choice with love.

So once again, what is optimal health worth to you? What choices will you make today? You can only choose in this minute, moment to moment. Will you take an honest look at your life and decide for health?

The Standard American Diet or better known as SAD needs EXPANSION! Get out of the crack house!

Many of us say we love our families but then we turn around and feed them poison on a daily basis. So what’s love got to do with it? Remember the June 5th blog post FEED OTHERS GOOD FOOD. Revisit that one to be reminded about all the pesticides in our food. Pesticides were never meant for human consumption. Neither is beige Frankenfood. So much of SAD is centered around meats that are full of hormones and antibiotics from animals who were fed genetically modified organisms (GMO). Of course you wouldn’t know that because the food industry has lobbied against labeling these foods.

Here’s the funny part. You just can’t keep those scrappy Americans down. Just when you’re convinced we’re all asleep at the switch, BAM, we wake up on you! Monsanto, Bayer, DuPont, etc. are shaking in their boots because by now millions upon millions of Americans have heard about GMO. They may not completely understand it yet, but they know they don’t want to eat it.

We initially fell victim to this scam because of our addiction to processed foods. Something the food industry was all to eager to help us develop. We now have more people addicted to sugar than crack cocaine (myself included). Have you ever tried to get between an addict and their fix? It’s dangerous. They will sell you and your mother down the river for a hit.

So what can we be and do to stem the tide of food addictions and clean up our food? Well here are some ideas.
– Eat more organic plant based foods, as fresh as possible.
– Eat a wider variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, the rainbow of colors.
– Plant and nourish a garden.

Where have you heard all these suggestions before? Have you heard yourself saying things like — I can’t afford ORGANIC!? I have a family to feed. Revisit June 5th and see why that mother realized that she was poisoning her children. Besides, if you grow your own fruits and vegetables, it’s much cheaper and you get the benefit of vine ripened produce which has all of the plants powerful phytonutrients and disease fighting enzymes. Plants don’t produce some of these gifts until right before harvest when they are most attractive to bugs. When you eat vine ripened produce, you get that benefit as well. And it tastes heavenly. Way better than boxed, processed food.

I don’t have time for a garden. Really? Seriously? I see people spending countless hours and dollars growing grass in their yards. At least grow something you can eat. You’ve got to water the lawn anyway. Why not water a few fruit trees and some containers full of vegetables? Even some homeless people have gardens so what’s your excuse?

By growing and eating the rainbow, your body gets vital nutrition that you can’t get out of a crack house like your local grocery store. In the past we’ve talked about your body’s cell receptor sites for specific nutrients found in the rainbow of fruits and vegetables. Your cells are crying out FEED ME!

Get out of the crack house and into the garden. Expand your horizons with more and better foods. Really show your family that you do love them. Feed them good food.

Set the example for GRACEFUL AGING

“Well… It runs in my family so I guess I’ll eventually get it.”

How many times have you heard this statement? How many times have you said it yourself? 😳

Are we really predisposed to get certain diseases? The latest epigenetic research says NO. You may carry genetics that says you are at risk for certain diseases, but that is not the final word on the subject.

Trailblazing scientist Dr. Bruce Lipton in his book ‘The Biology of Belief’ shows how beliefs and environment effect the creation and development of disease. “Stunning new scientific discoveries about the biochemical effects of the brain’s functioning show that all the cells of our body are affected by our thoughts. The implications of this research radically change our perception of life. It shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology; but instead, DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts.”

Are you fully grasping what this means? Just because grandma had crippling arthritis doesn’t mean that I too must suffer that fate. My own thoughts have a significant role to play in my health and overall aging. Aging gracefully means feeding yourself nutritious food and staying active. And now you know it also involves feeding yourself life giving thoughts.

It’s approaching summer and a lot of us will be doing the backyard barbecue, attending family reunions, birthday parties or just friendly get togethers. Whether it’s pot luck or not, please strive to feed others good food.

I see so many people piling on the heavy fatty meat products, salads packed with mayonnaise, and high fat sweet desserts. Sometimes there not a green vegetable or fresh fruit in sight for miles. With diabetes at epic proportions here in the US, most people can benefit from eating a healthy diet of plant based foods with limited processed foods and smaller amounts of meats and high fat, high sugar options. Over 100 million people in the US either have diabetes or are at risk for developing it.
Eat organic whenever you can. Pesticides were not meant to be ingested.

When you love someone, feeding them good food is a confirmation of your appreciation and admiration. It says that you want them around for a long time and you’re willing to go the extra mile if need be to give them the best.
