Take Something Good!

Holiday potlucks can be lucky for you! Oh, really? Yes, when you take something good.

How many times have you been invited to a potluck celebration only to find the table laden with a lot of fatty foods, processed carbohydrates and alcohol? Yes, that’s how we celebrate here in the US. But really no matter where you are in the world, celebrations can look this way. And you say, well, there goes my dream of making it through the holidays without gaining 10 pounds.

As we talked about last week, just remember portion control is your friend and have a light snack before you go to the party. You can do your part by bringing something good.

Bring food that helps you stay on track with your health plan. And it doesn’t have to be the same ole boring veggie tray with mystery dip. You can bring roasted veggies and luscious fruit salads as well. Even if you’re pressed for time and you resort to the veggie tray, dress it up a bit. Pick a wide variety of fresh veggies of all colors and sizes to make it interesting. Then, instead of the usual dip that goes straight to your thighs, try something different. Start with a base of plain low fat yogurt and add salsa. You can also start with a base of applesauce and add some buttery hemp seeds to jazz it up.

Have fun, bless your family and friends, and take something good!
